Ep 3. Kate Morris, talking how to be daring, growth, success, willpower, capital raising, technology, life and innovation.

Kate Morris the founder and CEO of Adorebeauty.com.au

I had the pleasure of chatting to Kate Morris the founder and CEO of Adorebeauty.com.au Australia’s first online beauty store. With a strong focus on growth Adorebeauty.com.au now turns over more than $10 million dollars annually.

Kate launched the business from her garage in 1999 at the age of 21, while still an undergraduate student. In 2015, after 15 years of bootstrapping, Adorebeauty.com.au announced an investment by retail giant Woolworths Limited.

We talk about how to be daring, growth in business, capital raising, technology, life and innovation.

Kate was awarded the Business Innovation Award for Victoria at the Telstra Business Women’s Awards in 2014, and was inducted into the Australian Businesswomen’s Network Hall of Fame in 2015.

In this episode, we delve into:

  • - Solving customer problems.
  • - Capital raising, how the Woolworths investment helped Adore Beauty achieve significant growth.
  • - Adore Beauty's expansion into China.
  • - Kate's biggest lessons in business.
  • - Balancing being a Mum and running a highly successful business.
  • - Kate's tips for anyone struggling in business.

Kate has a big focus on innovation, and in 2012 she launched Findation.com. Findation is a global project , creating the world’s largest usable database of matching foundation colours. Simply enter two foundation shades that you use and are happy with, and they will show you your perfect shade in any other product. In the world. Without needing to go into a store and try them on.

Starting a new business at any age is a huge task, never mind at the age of 21. An even bigger challenge in business is to ensure that your business continues to grow and thrive year on year. Kate's growth in business has come through having a very strong passion for what she does, however most importantly she has a vision for the future.  The foundations of any successful business start with passion and a strong vision.
