Take Your Performance to the Next Level: A Guide for the Ambitious

performance

Are you satisfied with your performance?

As we move further into the year, it's a good time to reflect on your performance so far. While we're a few months into the year already, it's never too late to assess how you've been doing and use that information to make improvements going forward.

It's important to not just look back at the past, but also focus on the future and what you can do to achieve your goals. Remember, the answer to how you're doing is crucial and will impact your immediate future.

Are you satisfied with your performance?

Yes.

If the answer is yes, perhaps you should be congratulated. If we’re honest with ourselves, there will always be areas of our performance that we’re happy with. Now here’s what I want you to ask yourself.

Are you satisfied with most aspects of your performance? If the answer is still yes, you’ve reached a point where you have a choice to make. You either stay as you are and enjoy your comfortable ride for the foreseeable future (and that may be a good choice, depending on where you are in life) or you discover you’re ready to take another step towards performance improvement.

Are you the best you can be? Is this where you want to stay? Is your life and career perfect? Again – there’s nothing wrong with that, but it won’t be enough for many people.

No.

Being the self-critical humans we are, it’s likely you answered no to my question. I want you to know that’s perfectly normal. We’re not supposed to be satisfied with ourselves all the time.

While feeling dissatisfied with your performance may feel uncomfortable and disappointing, I see it as a sign that you’re wanting to grow and improve. You’re not settling for the status quo. You want a career, a lifestyle and a performance that is going to get better and better.

Good on you for being willing to change.

The problem with satisfaction.

A feeling of satisfaction, contentment or even comfort is wonderful to experience, but it can also hold you back. It puts limits on your willingness to develop and blocks your opportunities for growth and new experiences.

When you feel dissatisfied, it’s a sign your subconscious is prodding you on. It tells you you’re capable of more. There are goals you haven’t yet met or dreams you haven’t fulfilled. There are skills you haven’t discovered yet and abilities you’ve not fully used.

Where do you stand now?

Are you the kind of person who settles for ‘good enough’? Are you confident you’ve fulfilled your potential? Have you given enough to the world?

Only you can answer those questions. If you still answer yes, then I’d love to congratulate you on having a fabulous life and a happy career. You’ve done it. You’ve achieved success.

If your answer is no, what are you going to do about it? Are you ready to make your mark on the world? Are you ready to ready to learn more about yourself, your strengths and weaknesses, and your unsuspected talents? Are you ready to amplify your impact, influence, and performance?
